Mongstad Reactor, Regeneration Train, Modularised Boilers
Boiler Plot Paradip
This diagram illustrates a layout for the Utilities Area for the Paradip Refinery FEED. It is spacious, has no need of concemtration of equipment in a small area, This refinery was planned in an area adjacent to a large industrial centre with a good availability of skilled labour. In such circumstances the attraction of modularisation is limited.
The next illustration shows the Reactor, Regeneration Train (which includes two modularised boilers)  for Mongstad  Refinery. It is not spacious but slightly congested, This refinery was planned in an area with limited availability of skilled labour, not close to sources of materials, equipment or bulks.
In such circumstances the attraction of modularisation is more obvious and would allow the use of a specialist boiler manufacturer in a more competative location (Italy) to be used.
Flare, Extensive Sterile Area away from other plant
An element of the Mongstad Refinery Design included a Redesigned Flare.  Flares for reasons of safety have a Sterile Area which demands the use of land in which personal access is prohibited and  vunerable equipment is sited outside the range of damage. The space for the flare was already taken in the existing Refinery.

(This compares with the need to compress the redesigned and expanded refinery into an already small area as shown for the Boilers. Any gain of space was an advantage.)
